T.W.I.S.T. Conference 2022
16th Student Conference in Linguistics
23 and 24 April 2022
Music: A Language We All Understand
What is the T.W.I.S.T. Conference?
The T.W.I.S.T. Conference is organized annually by T.W.I.S.T., the study association for Linguistics students at Leiden University. Each year, the conference provides a truly academic yet open and informal platform for undergraduate (BA), graduate (MA) and postgraduate (PhD) students to present their original research to fellow students and researchers from all over the Netherlands and abroad.
Through many engaging student talks and keynote lectures, we strive to bring together linguistics students and other language enthusiasts from the most diverse research fields and subdisciplines.
The T.W.I.S.T. Conference in 2022
April 23rd and 24th are the days to mark on your calendar this time around! We'll have two full days of good old, linguistics-filled, academic presentations, as well as a workshop, and good company all the while.
Our main location is the Lipsius building of Leiden University's Humanities faculty, in the Netherlands (Cleveringaplaats 1, 2311 BD Leiden). But don't worry if you can't make it in person — we're having the conference in hybrid format this year! We're selling online tickets as well as in-person tickets, so anyone someplace else can see the talks livestreamed and even ask questions through Zoom.
The hybrid format also allows us to host a number of speakers from different counties, and even continents! Check out the schedule to learn more, or scroll through our keynote speakers and our student speakers. Don't forget to also check out what the workshop is about.
This year's theme: Music: A Language We All Understand. This iconic line from Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke, expresses the universality of music as well as its interconnectedness with language. The two influence each other, overlap, and more often than not, blur their borders. Speakers were encouraged to keep this theme in mind, but also to not let it restrict them. The result: a varied mix of linguistics-related topics!
Get your tickets last-minute, if you don't have them yet! We'll be selling them even during the conference.
We, the organizing committee members, pour much of ourselves into the planning and running of the conference. To get a sense of who we are, check us out on the committee page. To leave this a mystery, do nothing, and be surprised when you run into us at the conference :).
