Giel

Hi! My name is Giel and I am the chair of the 2020 Conference committee! I am currently in my 3rd year of the descriptive linguistics track of the BA and I am interested in many aspects of linguistics. I am looking forward to getting lost in various kinds of linguistic research during the talks at the coming T.W.I.S.T. conference!

Marit

Hi! I'm Marit and in this committee I happily fulfill the role of secretary. I'm currently in my third year of linguistics and my first year of Latin American Studies. So I have a special interest in Latin American languages and discourse analysis. I am looking forward to all the different kinds of talks we're gonna hear at the conference!

Jeroen

My name is Jeroen, 23 years old and currently finishing up my fourth and last year in the descriptive track of the BA Linguistics. As the committee's treasurer, it is my task to manage the budget, apply for subsidies, and to make sure no receipts are lost. Additionally, I manage our new website, and I work on designing the posters and schedule. Even though this is my second year in the committee, I'm yet again excited to see how all of our preparations will lead to a wonderful conference!

Leyan

Hi, my name is Leyan and I’m in charge of promotion of ConferenCie 2019-2020. I’m particularly interested in sociolinguistics and neurolinguistics. This year the conference will be held in my second home -  Leiden University Medical Center! Next to being a linguistics student, I’m also a medical student. Wishing to see you all there! :)

Lieke

I am Lieke van Zijl and 21 years old. I am in my fourth year of the Linguistics BA in Leiden, in which I chose the Descriptive Linguistics track. In the committee I am Commissioner External Communication, which means that I am in charge of most of the emails of the speakers and the visitors. Random fact: Unlike most of the other committee members, I have the so-called 'soft g', which is the voiceless velar fricative [x]. This is because I am born in Brabant, which lies in the south of the Netherlands.

Hi! I’m Jelle and I am mainly in the committee to regulate the communication with the organising association’s board. As of writing this, I am a measly nineteen years old and currently doing descriptive linguistics at Leiden University. My main interest lies in oddities and peculiarities in any language of the world and you can always wake me up for (lame) puns!
